FOCUS ON THE TRUTH

The Challenge

This week’s challenge is to put the theme verses above into action by reading the book of James one chapter a day. To help focus briefly answer the questions below after you read each chapter. Use your journal or copy and paste the questions to your computer and answer them there. I’d prefer you use your computer so you can easily post your responses to the blog which will enable us to read your responses before we meet next week. But if writing in your journal works better and it’s too time consuming to input to post don’t worry about it. Taking the time to answer the questions is more important. This challenge will take you about 15 – 20 minutes each day. Plan 20 minutes so you’re not rushing. Also, don’t do it front of the TV, etc. Find a place to get alone and focus.

1. What are the big ideas in the chapter?

2. What verse or verses caught your attention the most?

3. Write a prayer to God about why this verse caught your attention and how you hope to apply it (It doesn’t have to be more than 2 or 3 sentences - and remember God doesn’t care about grammar or spelling)

4. Bonus Challenge (optional) – Do something so you read the verse two times during the day (put it in your calendar, write it on 3x5 card, email yourself, etc.)

Scroll down and click on "POST A COMMENT" to let us know how it went.

Theme Verse
How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. Psalm 119:9-16

I'm starting off today so I've got some catching up to do.

I did start this "Plan of Action" the Monday after the retreat. I cannot say that I have been very successful though. The fires did not affect me too much, so for that I am thankful. However, I did catch a cold and have been feeling horrible since Tuesday. I only did the task for 3 days and covered 4 chapters, along with writing answers in a journal, and a study of the text. The reason I wanted to start with this plan, was to get into studying the Bible everyday. I currently read the Bible everyday, but not STUDY it. I have moved onto "A Wife's Worth" for this week, but of course still plan on finishing James.
